Rotary International News

Dear Rotary Leaders

With the start of the new Rotary year, Rotary International’s revised Strategic Plan officially goes into effect from 1st July 2010.

The plan comprises three priorities, all of equal importance to Rotary's future:

·       support and strengthen clubs,
·       focus and increase humanitarian service,
·       enhance public image and awareness.

The goals for Support and Strengthen Clubs are:
·       Foster club innovation and flexibility
·       Balance activities in all Avenues of Service
·       Promote membership diversity
·       Improve member recruitment and retention
·       Develop leaders
·       Extend Rotary
·       Encourage strategic planning at club and district levels

The goals for Focus and Increase Humanitarian Service are:
·       Eradicate polio
·       Increase sustainable service focused on
·       New Generations Service programs
·       Our six areas of focus
·       Expand strategic partnerships and cooperative relationships
·       Create significant projects both locally and internationally

The goals for Enhance Public Image and Awareness are:
·       Unify image and brand awareness
·       Publicize action-oriented service
·       Promote core values
·       Emphasize vocational service
·       Encourage clubs to promote their networking opportunities and signature activities

These priorities stem from Rotary’s core values of  Service,  Leadership,  Diversity,  Integrity, and  Fellowship.
Rotary clubs can use the priorities in the RI Strategic Plan as a basis for developing their own plans, tailored to their size of their club, the skills of their members, and the needs of the communities they serve.

In 2001-02, as Rotary International entered its second century of service, it began developing a strategic plan to guide the organization. The plan has been reviewed and updated periodically since. In 2009, the Board conducted an  extensive  review of the RI Strategic Plan.  This review  included  surveying 14,000 Rotarians worldwide about the organization’s priorities, conducting focus groups to assess Rotary’s image in different countries, and analyzing other data and research. The RI Board of Directors adopted the revised plan at its November meeting  and refined it  in January. The revised plan, effective 1 July 2010, reflects the results of this research and also unifies the strategic direction of RI and The Rotary Foundation.
